Through this line of research, we have addressed several specific phobias from a cognitive behavioral approach. Phobias to small animals, flying phobia, claustrophobia or acrophobia are some of the psychological problems treated with this approach.

fobia We have developed a specific evaluation protocol and treatment protocol for each disorder. The evaluation protocol is aimed to achieve such diagnosis. Regarding the treatment protocol, sessions are based on a cognitive and behavioral approach, in which exposure techniques and cognitive restructuring are the main components of therapeutic intervention. In addition, we provide the patient with all the available information (psychoeducation) that will enable them to know properly what their problem is.

All this, along with control anxiety techniques (muscle relaxation techniques, breathing, etc.) conform a treatment program with a gradual course of work which are adapted to the personal history and circumstances of the patient.

Numerous studies show the efficiency and effectiveness of cognitive-behavioral treatment for specific phobias in short, medium and long term.

Currently, new developments in this line of work are focused on adding the benefits of new technologies (telepsychology, virtual reality, augmented reality) to these therapies. The preliminary results are quite promising and offer an opportunity to improve the empirically validated treatments such as the cognitive-behavioral one.
